# s1 > s1 is a free, open-source (MIT), voice-first agent for macOS 26+. You double-tap Shift (or press Control-Option-Space), say what you want done, and s1 operates your apps through the macOS Accessibility API, logging every step. A built-in grammar handles everyday commands with no AI model. Two optional models sit on top: the Judge (System 1), a fast decision model that checks each step, and the Reasoner (System 2), an LLM that handles anything new. Every action passes a safety gate. Key facts: - Platform: macOS 26 or later, Apple silicon. Native Swift 6 / SwiftUI app plus the `s1` command-line tool in one package. - Install: `brew tap Matthew-Eucaristo/tap && brew trust Matthew-Eucaristo/tap && brew install --cask s1`, or download from GitHub Releases. - Price: free. License: MIT. Author: Matthew Eucaristo. - Models: one model per job, all optional. Roles are `judge` (the Judge, System 1, a decision model: TypeSafe Jev, Liquid AI d1, Cloudflare Clef, Ollama nimble), `reasoner` (the Reasoner, System 2, an LLM: OpenCode Go, OpenAI, OpenRouter including Claude, Groq, Google Gemini, xAI, DeepSeek, Cloudflare, Ollama, LM Studio, any OpenAI-compatible server), `transcribe` and `speak` (cloud voice; default is on-device Apple speech). - Vision (on by default): screenshots go to the Judge if it can read images, otherwise to the Reasoner when a step needs it; if neither can, s1 uses the accessibility tree only. One switch turns screen sharing off. - Safety: password fields, credentials, purchases and irreversible actions always wait for the user. Talking over s1 interrupts it. - Privacy: speech is recognized on-device; API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain; no telemetry; every run is saved locally under ~/.s1/artifacts. - Languages: on-device speech in 14 languages; English and Indonesian verified end to end. - Configuration: great defaults, all changeable in Settings, with `s1 use`, in ~/.s1/config.json, or with `S1_*` environment variables. App accent is s1 orange by default or follows the macOS accent. - Extensibility: any OpenAI-compatible model server, custom Judge/Reasoner in Swift, voice-saved skills, Shortcuts, and the CLI. A plugin system is on the roadmap (not available yet). ## Docs - [README](https://github.com/Matthew-Eucaristo/s1/blob/main/README.md): install, models, voice, CLI, files, permissions - [Full summary for LLMs](https://s1-mac.pages.dev/llms-full.txt): everything on this site plus CLI reference - [Security model](https://github.com/Matthew-Eucaristo/s1/blob/main/SECURITY.md) - [Changelog](https://github.com/Matthew-Eucaristo/s1/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md) - [Writing your own brain](https://github.com/Matthew-Eucaristo/s1/blob/main/docs/adding-a-brain.md) ## Source - [GitHub repository](https://github.com/Matthew-Eucaristo/s1) - [Releases](https://github.com/Matthew-Eucaristo/s1/releases)
